Words cannot express the passion and enthusiasm I have for donuts – how something so simple (yet so complex) can provide so much happiness.
Going back to grade seven, I had a mate who’s mum would pick us up after school – and she’d religiously have donuts waiting for us – thus my love affair with these delicious treats began.
When I think of donuts in Melbourne, I think of Shortstop. Freshly made throughout the day, they’re located on Sutherland Street in Melbourne – ideal setting for a morning snack or afternoon treat.
Offerings include raised, cake, filled and their ever popular cruller donuts. They even make their own peanut butter! Of course, coffee is their specialty too – and yes, they do excellent coffee.
Dark chocolate and peanut butter cream filled $5.50.
Chocolate & peanut butter is unquestionably one of my favourite combinations ever. I had my heart set on their maple walnut & brown butter donut, but as soon as I saw this, I couldn’t deny it!!
The donut was incredible – deep fried to perfection, and generously filled with that heavenly peanut butter cream. Combined with the dark chocolate, every bite was pure deliciousness. Just from a singular donut, it’s apparent they use premium ingredients, crafted to a high standard.
Also worth noting how awesome the staff were – fun and enthusiastic, they clearly love what they do!
Shortstop Coffee & Donuts are without question one of the best (if not the best) places for donuts in Melbourne. Fantastic staff, superb coffee, and above all – the donuts are utterly mouthwatering. An absolute Melbourne icon.
