Oh how I adore sushi. When I was living in Adelaide it wouldn’t be uncommon to find me consuming this sublime delicacy at one of my all time favourite restaurants – Wasai. It was here (combined with two weeks in Japan) that I developed my passion for this Japanese exquisiteness.
It was a weekday morning, when I arrived just after opening. I love Japanese hospitality, I find it so welcoming and friendly – Hinoki was no exception. There were several chefs/cooks behind the bar (busily preparing ingredients), as I was greeted by an enthusiastic hello (in Japanese of course).
Shake Maki (salmon) $10
No doubt, these guys know the art of authentic sushi. Hoso Maki is the type of sushi that one can expect whilst in Japan, and I can confirm that this salmon roll was exceedingly delicious. The salmon was flavoursome, accumulating flawlessly with the accompanying ingredients – the ratio of the salmon, sushi and seaweed was a very high standard. And at ten dollars for the platter, the value for money aspect is unbeatable.
I love this place, simple as that. Authentic, high quality sushi at an affordable price. Friendly and efficient staff, and the tables at the front of the shop make for some excellent people watching! If you’re a sushi enthusiast in Melbourne, Hinoki Japanese Pantry is a must!
